Heeeeere we go again.

I need another project like a hole in the head, but hey, I’m already vibe coding 24/7 so I may as well start a blog/pod/whatever about it.

It ain’t gonna be polished. It ain’t gonna be pretty.

There’s a good chance no one even reads it.

But ever since tools like Lovable, Replit, and Cursor showed up, I feel like Guybrush Threepwood on Mêlée Island, eager to go from wannabe developer to swashbuckling founder.

I’m naming this site Ship Rats.

It’s a combo of “ship” (as in shipping software) and “rat” (as in, I’m no professional and this is my scrappy, ratty way of figuring it out).

It’s also a nod to the pirate-esque, at-sea feeling that comes with bootstrapping startups and building apps, where every launch is an adventure and every new user is a little wind in your sails.

That’s the kind of life I wanna live.

I want to sail the seas on my own – doing whatever I want, whenever I want, with whomever I want.

If that sounds enticing, you might be a ship rat too.

It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from Shaan Puri.

“Life is more about motion than direction. Imagine you’re on a beach and you want to get to a fantasy island where all your dreams come true. The problem is, you can’t see the island. It’s foggy. You’ve got to get in a boat and start paddling. As you do, you’ll realize where to go. It’s much easier to move a boat when you have momentum. You’ll put your paddle in the water and turn toward the island.”

Welcome aboard, fellow ship rats.

The sea is calm, the wind is good. Let’s sail.
